From bluewaveted.com. Some people still use them. :)
A lot of people still rely on travel agents, even though the business is going downhill. For me, however, sometimes it’s best to consult a professional. A true professional. But how can you weed out the good from the bad? Here is my list.
1. Credentials. A sign of a good agent is proper credentials. If he is part of an official association of travel professionals like ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents), he may be legit.
2. Friendly attitude. Talk to the agent and ask questions. Try to see if he’s being sincere. Ask about fees. Ask how long they’ve been around. Look around as well. If the other agents are less friendly and more pressuring, it is not a good sign.
3. Nearby. Talk to the agent personally. Don’t travel too far to find them, it’s best if you can get to them easily. If he is too far, use the phone. The agent’s voice makes them feel close.
4. Grace under pressure. The best measure of a travel agent is how he reacts to a bad situation. Flight delays, overbooking, and more, does he help you, drop you, or give you a 800 number?
How about you? Know any good travel agents?
